Splitting of Australian Enthusiasts Wiki into Computing Classics Wiki

From Freosan Studios Knowledge Base

On the 23rd of September, hard drive articles currently hosted on Australian Enthusiasts Wiki will be split into a new wiki, titled Computing Classics Wiki. This is scheduled to occur alongside downtime necessary for our bimonthly software update scheduled the same day.

Until this migration is complete, https://ccw.freosanstudios.com links will redirect to this page. After this, the wiki will be open for anyone to contribute.

Why is this being done?

When AEW was first established, it was initially intended to cover Australian enthusiasm. While mostly dedicated to "transport" type interests such as elevators, trains and buses, it was eventually also expanded to cover hard drives on the basis of them being enthusiast devices, at least to some people.

However, over the years, it has been discovered that hard drive content conflicts with the goal of AEW to be a one-stop shop for Australian transport enthusiasm, given that hard drives are by no means unique to Australia. At the same time, the treasure trove of hard drive content threatens to derail this goal as well. As a result, hard drives would be split into their own wiki called Computing Classics Wiki, which unlike AEW would be a place for computing articles all around the world.

Current status

  • 24 September 2024: Computing Classics Wiki has been launched. Over the coming weeks, articles on AEW pertaining to hard drives will be exported to CCW, then if no issues exist, deleted. Full attribution history will be available at CCW.
